YOU MAY HAVE TRIGGER POINTS!

Symptoms of Trigger Points:

  • Insomnia

Trigger points are a common source of pain that are frequently mis-diagnosed. Trigger points are knots or taut bands in muscle which are caused by small areas of active spasm in the muscle. These are very tender locally and refer pain to other areas in the body that are further away. They can cause a deep aching pain associated with a burning, stabbing pain, weakness, tingling, stiffness and difficulty sleeping. They occur more frequently in the posture muscles of the neck, mid back and low back. The affected muscle will be weaker and shorter than normal, very tender when pressed firmly and may cause a visible twitch.

Causes: Trauma/injury to the muscle, overuse causing muscle damage, overload when a muscle is being used in an improper way causing stress on the fibers which respond by developing trigger points. If this problem goes untreated the problem may be referred to as Myofascial Pain Syndrome.
